Children’s Day Celebration at Raphael

November 18, 2022

November 14 is celebrated as Children’s Day or Bal Diwas every year in India. The special day is celebrated in remembrance of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, born on November 14, 1889. He advocated that the children of this country are entitled to a fulfilling childhood and higher education. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country. He was known as Chacha Nehru because of his affection for children.

Raphael Centre celebrated the day in a most memorable way. It is the school’s annual sports day, and the focus is on children having fun. The grounds of Raphael were beautifully decorated with different coloured balloons and streamers, giving it a most festive look. The day started with the march past and the salute was taken by Col Biswas, Raphael’s Administrative Officer.  The children marched class-wise, the line headed by the class teacher. This was followed by races, a sack race, a cerebral palsy walk, a wheelchair ‘race’ and games stalls. The stalls included ‘treasure hunt,’ ‘put the bindi on the girl,’ ‘feed the joker’ and many more. The preparations, the coordination and the creativity shown by the staff was most impressive. The winners were awarded prizes and the delight on their faces were a real joy to see.
